HILDA (March 2013) “This is my Hilda her gotcha day was 2nd March 2013. As u can see she was seriously neglected and I couldn’t leave her at kennels so I fostered her for a while, but in my hearts of hearts I knew she wasn’t going anywhere. At the time she needed me and I needed her! She’s a proper character and I love her so much, one of my bestest friends” xxx

Lovely story. As I look at Hilda’s photo I glance over the room and look at Daniel lying on his back with legs wide open! He left Wellidogs in June 2016 at about 80 mph, (and I’m not talking about my driving!) He saw the door to his kennel open and launched himself out and straight into my van. Half way down Main Road I wondered if I had made the right decision. Daniel was driving the van by then and making a pretty good job of it frankly. He is hyper-active and I learned very quickly about the habit of mouthing that Deerhounds have, and in his case half Deerhound. I discovered very quickly that some Deerhounds are on permanent hunting mode and soon all the local dogs and their partners found that out too! Very strong he nearly had several local dogs but is beginning to quieten down a bit with those he recognises.
Daniel has never messed in the house, a tremendous bonus, but has one peculiar habit that has baffled us and seems undiminishing. Late at night, when he is let out in the garden he launches himself across the lawn and pulls up next to a large shrub with a first class impersonation of a fighter jet pulling up on an aircraft carrier short flight deck. He attacks whatever he believes is hiding in the bush with a frightening degree of savage barking. Not finding anything there he does what all dogs do late at night before going to bed, then takes on his imaginary cat/bird/dog/fox all over again and with an undiminished level of barking. That’s OK at 8 pm or 9 pm but at 2 am it can upset the neighbours! The only way I stop him is to lead him out by his collar.
But after all that, and spending ages washing the mud off his paws and hind legs and telling him to his face that “this is very silly!, he gives me so much more back. He has love and devotion in his eyes and when I get in from shopping or whatever I am still greeted with a frantic circling around, mouthing in a friendly manner and head in the shopping bag!
When I approach the house he can always be seen watching out from the front bedroom window. He always gets to the door before I do.
Why ANYONE wants to spend £700 on a puppy farmed dog when thousands like Hilda and Daniel are so desperate to find their final loving home is beyond me. Thanks to all at Wellidogs for my newest friend and companion.
