Hogans Hampers

Hogan’s Hampers are a local company based in St. James Mill Road, Northampton. They have kindly donated their beautiful hampers as prizes for the Best in Show and Reserve in Show at our show at Grendon Lakes on 26th June.

Their beautiful hampers may very well be prizes in future events so keep an eye out for our Companion Dog Shows throughout the year.

Our Gorgeous Boy WILL is a TV STAR!

WILL had some very special visitors from the BBC, including Dr Kendal Shepherd!

She believes that with three simple rules you can gain control of your four-legged friend…  Just watch how she got him to lay down for a belly rub within less than an hour of meeting him 🙂

This boy deserves a loving home as much as any other dog…  Watch his TV debut and you’ll see that his bark was definitely much louder than his bite 😉

WILL and JESSIE’s Day at The Beach

There’s nothing better than a little paddle in the Ocean on a summers day…  That is unless you are the lovely Jessie 😉 Will had a FANTASTIC time getting his pawsies wet, but Jessie was having none of that! …although she did have a lovely time just watching the sea at Hunstanton and relaxing away from Kennels for the day ❤

Will on the other hand absolutely LOVED paddling in the sea…  And Ice-Cream! Can you believe that Jessie doesn’t like Ice-Cream? No, neither could we… But their lovely caretakers Josh and Charli did, so nothing went to waste… And what trip to the seaside would be complete without Fish & Chips, which went down well with all of them! …even Lady Jessie 🙂

Our hearts were just bursting seeing these two get out of the kennels for the day and experiencing life ❤ Hopefully one day, they will both meet their special ‘someone’ who will want to share experiences just like this with them…

Look at them… They absolutely loved it ❤ ❤ ❤

Thinking about Fostering a Dog?

we very rarely foster our dogs out, only if they need a major operation or are really not coping in kennels. however there are times like when a dog suddenly needs an operation where we are in desperate need of one. we like them to be short term fosters if we can :).

Fostering is extremely rewarding for both you and the dog. You can help them adjust to a loving home environment and provide basic training ready for them to move on to their forever home.

If you’re thinking about fostering a dog for us you would need to come along to kennels and meet us and our dogs first.

The next step would be a home check by us to make sure that your home is safe and does not pose any risks to your chosen dog. Please don’t be worried about this, but at this stage we know the dogs better than you and can identify any potential risks. Our aim is to keep both our dogs and your family safe, and once you have passed you are welcome to foster a suitable dog.

We will provide food, bedding etc and any help that may be needed until the dog has found their forever home.

You will be expected to keep the Kennel Manager or fellow fosters up-to-date with the dog’s progress. You will also be required to help advertise the dog and help find him/her a suitable home, which will include allowing potential adopters to meet your foster pup at a mutually convenient time.

Fostering can be an emotional roller coaster, but it’s always extremely rewarding when our much loved dogs finally settle into the perfect family and get the love they very much deserve!

We wanted to share with you these comments from our current Foster Mums and Dads…

“We love fostering dogs, seeing them come in from the stray block or handed over because they’re unwanted, and watching their little characters develop. You get to see the change from when they come in to when they leave. Each and every one has different characteristics which makes them special, and so lovable!! It’s a really enjoyable thing to do and it gives the dogs and second chance to be happy!!”

“Fostering allows me to do a more in depth assessment in a home environment and social setting, enforce basic training, manners and ensure that the dog is house trained and settled; improving the dogs chances of a forever home, and any issues that arise can be worked on effectively. It also means that we can suitably match a dog and his/her new home accurately. It is very rewarding and can also be very challenging, but to see the improvements and willingness of the dog, and to see the dog happy in a forever home makes it all worthwhile.”

“Fostering gives the dogs a chance to learn trust, love and boundaries and helps them see that life isn’t too scary. As a fosterer it’s good to know that for a short while you are making a difference to these confused pooches, and you are helping them prepare for their forever homes; giving them the best chance for a happy, secure future.”

Thinking About Volunteering at Wellidog?

  • So… You’re thinking about volunteering?
  • Do you have some free time, even if it’s only a couple of hours?
  • Do you love dogs?
  • Are you prepared to donate your time for free?

If that’s four Yes’s then you’ve come to the right place! 🙂

Wellidogs would not exist without the dedication and kindness of its supporters and regular volunteers, and volunteering can be a very rewarding experience as well as a way to meet new friends.

At Wellidog we’re more like a big family who pull together to make a difference to some very deserving furbabies who have found themselves here through no fault of their own.

There are many ways that you can help…

  1. Dog Walking – If you have some free time, then why not volunteer as a dog walker? Our dogs always need exercise no matter whether is wet or dry, and it’s good for them to get out and have a some one-on-one attention…
  2. Ad-hoc help as/when you are able to is always welcome. Give us a shout and we can discuss ways to help without committing anything ongoing.
  3. Or if you are able to volunteer on a regular basis we would love to hear from you. It could be anything from cleaning kennels to preparing feeds, or exercising the inmates 😉 but you would need to be sure that you’re happy to commit to helping regularly help as we’d be relying on you…
  4. But if you can’t do any of these you could help with fund-raising, fosteringdonating or even just collecting donations, as that would free up more of our time to take care of the dogs 🙂

A love of dogs is a MUST if you want to volunteer, so if you do, and helping us is something you’re considering, why don’t you contact us so that we can have a chat about it…

We can’t pay you, but we can promise you that the feeling you get when you see a dog(s) that you’ve worked with, and grown to love go on to find a loving new home, is priceless ❤

So, if you’re still thinking about volunteering we look forward to hearing from you soon.

Scamp Returns to Wellidog

SCAMP was extremely uncomfortable when he arrived, and his coat was tightly matted.

The Search for New Homes has Ended for Ashley & Arthur

We are really happy to tell everyone that we are no longer looking for new homes for Ashley and Arthur…  They are staying where they are with their failed Foster Parents ❤

Thank you 🙂

Thinking about re-homing your dog?

Unfortunately we often see dogs with behaviour problems that have escalated to the point where their owners feel they can no longer cope due to problems with the dog itself, and so the dog is brought to us.

With the right help and advice, many of these problems could have been prevented, and these dogs could have been shown the ‘right’ way to behave. Often a little patience, guidance and training is all that is required, so we’ve attached some links and information that may help before you feel that re-homing is your only option.
